Relational prevention

Family and Natural Supports

Family and Natural Supports approaches strengthen safe relationships with family, chosen family, kin, mentors, and trusted adults.

What it does

Supports relationship repair, mediation, safety planning, and durable adult support when appropriate.

Why it matters

Youth homelessness is often relational as well as economic. Loss of trusted adult support can deepen housing instability.

School takeaway

Schools should treat relational disconnection as a possible prevention signal, not only a behavioural problem.

What remains

Family reconnection is not always safe. Youth consent, violence risk, and culturally safe practice must guide decisions.
